George L. Tannler

George L. Tannler, 91, Osseo, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 29, 2017, surrounded by his children and grandchildren at Dove Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Osseo.

George was born June 4, 1925, to Andrew and Lillian (Kosar) Tannler, Cadott.

He was raised in Cadott and graduated from Cadott High School in 1944.

Being the oldest of four children, George assumed the responsibility of the family farm when he was 17, at the time of his father’s passing. He married Dorothy (Mahr) in 1952, and together, they raised 10 children – five sons and five daughters.

George moved to Osseo in 2001 where he resided the remainder of his life.

He took great pride in his farm, and received the Chippewa County Land and Soil Conservation Award for his forward thinking. As a young man, he played basketball many years on the city team, and enjoyed any day he could find time to go fishing.

He took numerous trips to Montana, Wyoming and Canada, appreciating the natural beauty of those locations and national parks, as well as vacations to Blueberry Lake Resort in Couderay, frequent family barbeques, gardening, home cooking, bowling, horse events, and daily morning coffee and donuts with friends.

Each day, George had a devoted dog at his side and always a hope to go fishing. He looked forward to any time with his children and grandchildren, and was present with his ever witty, clever sense of humor, storytelling and passing on his wisdom of life.

George was known for his incredible strength, leading personality and resilience; this spirit was demonstrated even on his last day.

He is survived by his sister – Yvonne Dyer, Chicago, Ill.; his children – Drew (Kim) Tandler, Weyerhaeuser, Mark (Sherry) Tannler, Cadott, Peter Tannler, Stanley, Michelle Tannler, Eau Claire, Lynn Tannler, Minnetonka, Minn., Diane (Jim) Krzesowiak, Elk River, Minn., Paul (Shelley) Tannler, Osseo, and Lisa (Dan) Bent, Osceola; his grandchildren – Amanda (Travis) Sahlin, Andrea (Joseph) Shimko, Nathan, Christopher and Jordan Tandler, Courtney, Brent and Erika Tannler, Christina and Elisabeth Steinmetz, Michael (Brooke) Krzesowiak, Adrian and Jimmy Krzesowiak, Colten and Quinten Tannler, Stephanie Corfits, and Samantha, Sydney and Jacob Bents; great-grandchildren – Jace and Jayden Sahlin, Ella and Ava Shimko, and Aahliyah, Stacia and Daemon Corfits.
