George H. Celske
George H. Celske, 89, Holcombe, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, after a short stay at the Ladysmith Nursing Home from complications of liver cancer.
George was born June 10, 1927, to Albert and Jesse (Borkowski) Celske, of Conrath.
In his early 20s, George fought in the Korean War.
He married Loretta Jean Gorla Oct. 13, 1956, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Ladysmith. She preceded him in death Sept. 23, 2007.
George and Loretta moved to Illinois for a few years, but returned to take over the farm he grew up on with his many siblings. He farmed and worked construction until 1976, when he sold the farm. A few years later, they moved to the Holcombe area, where he would enjoy many days trying to catch that monster sturgeon.
He is survived by his three children – Jeannine Zimmer (Steve), Glen Flora, Sandi and Al Schonfelder, Glen Flora, and Terry Celske, Conrath; five grandchildren – Noelle and Todd Prochaska, Tyler and Danielle Zimmer, Kendra and Paige Schonfelder, and Blayne Celske; five great-grandchildren – Scott, Holly and Heidi Prochaska, and Isaac and Breanna Zimmer; three brothers – Casey, Willie and Tony; three sisters – Doat Hattamer, Gert Guthman and Mary Munger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife – Loretta; two sons – Mark and Michael; his brother – Ted; and four sisters – Lou, Caroline, Florence and Virginia.
Services were held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on the Flambeau River, with Deacon Doug Sorenson officiating. Burial was in the Town of Washington Cemetery.
