Borghild “Borg” Margaretha (Nickelson) Bayerl
Borghild “Borg” Margaretha (Nickelson) Bayerl, Cornell, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, after a brief illness at 96 years of age.
Borghild was born Dec. 20, 1921, to Sigrid Olson and Nick Nickelson in Forsythe, Mont. Their family then moved to a farm in the Ruby community of Chippewa County.
After graduating from Stanley High School, Borghild studied nursing at the Luther Hospital School of Nursing.
She met and married Clement B. Bayerl in 1943, and they lived and worked on the Bayerl dairy farm in Colburn.
Borg graduated from Luther Hospital School of Nursing in 1944, and proudly worked as a registered nurse at Stanley Hospital, The Northern Colony in Chippewa Falls, and Zastrow’s Nursing Home in Gilman, when her children were teenagers.
She was a great advocate for children’s health and education, according to her children and grandchildren.
Borghild married Lawrence Kapsy in 1967, and moved to Cleveland Township in 1981.
She is survived by three children – Robert E. (Dianne) Bayerl, Holcombe; Mary A. (Kenneth) Swanson, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Susan M. Lopez-Sublett, Cornell; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband – Clement Bayerl in 1973; husband – Lawrence Kapsy; sister – Marion B. Phillips, Osseo; and brother – Edward Rudi, Gilman.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 2, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell, with Father Eric Linzmaier officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Holcombe, following the funeral mass.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m., Friday morning, at the at church.
