A veterans memorial is in the planning stage for Holcombe, but before ground can be broken, the committee in charge wanted a little direction on how to get the project kick-started. With that in mind, the committee invited Bloomer Veterans Memorial Committee member Jim Hudacek to speak Jan. 16.

Bloomer’s memorial planning began in 2003, after the events of 9/11. It took the committee five years to complete the project, at a cost of around $250,000.

“Well, I’m not going to be presumptuous and say, this is how you should do it,” said Hudacek. “All I’m going to say, is this is what we did and it worked.”
