Veterans memorial gets OK

The far piece of land owned by the Lake Holcombe Lions Club will be the site of the proposed veterans memorial to honor those in the area who have served their country. At least $50,000 will need to be raised to begin the project and the public is asked for their input on the memorial. Photo by Ginna Young

After almost a year of planning, the Lake Holcombe Veterans Memorial Planning Committee has received the go-ahead to install a memorial on the Lake Holcombe Lions Club property, located on County Hwy. M. The committee learned of the news May 7, which was met with celebration.

Originally, plans were to place the memorial with the current flag poles by the Lions pavilion, but it was discovered that setbacks are not there for a large memorial.

Instead, the monument to honor veterans will be constructed at the far end of the Lions property, next to the road by the far driveway. Electricity can be run from the existing flag pole/sign area once money is raised and a design finalized.
