Hugh hopes to reach more kids through after-school

Those familiar with the Cornell After-School program may notice that a familiar face was absent as the 2018-19 school year rounded down. Vicki Hugh, or Mrs. H, as the kids know her, took a step back from the program in April, when health issues forced her to slow down, after about nine years of helping the students.

“I miss the kids too much to never go back,” said Hugh, adding that she would like to return to volunteer for the after-school program next year.

Hugh says she has even more motivation to return
to working with the kindergarten and first-grade students next year, for a couple days a week, since her grandson
and great-granddaughter will both be in the group next
year.

Hugh had volunteered for the program on Mondays and Tuesdays, but has had more extensive roles with after-school in the past.
