Starting his track and field journey as early as he could in sixth grade, Cornell senior Colton Hetke rounds the next corner in his athletic career, securing a spot on a collegiate-level team at Augustana University in South Dakota.

After earning third in the state for high jump and fifth for 300-meter hurdles last year, it was no surprise universities started to contact Colton to join their team. Colton said several Division 3 schools took interest, but he had his sights set on UW-Eau Claire, until Division 2 Augustana University came around.

“I decided to choose Augustana because of their strong focus on academics and the overall feel of the university,” said Colton, who plans to major in criminal law. “I just felt as if it was the best fit for me.”

After a campus visit in South Dakota, Colton said the smaller school population, along with coaches and teammates he met, pushed him to become a Viking.
