There was good news to be shared at the regular Cornell City Council meeting July 2, as mayor Judy Talbot announced the city was awarded a $7,500 matching Twins Fields for Kids Grant, from the Minnesota Twins Community Fund. The grant will be used for fencing and lighting at the Cornell softball field at Mill Yard Park.

Ben Modl, Cornell Utility/City Works superintendent, applied for the grant and the city will now match the funds in next year’s budget.

“Whatever we can do,” said Talbot. “It is matching funds…so we can get some nice improvements done there. I just want to thank Ben for going after it and getting it. That’s a wonderful thing.”
